Riveiro On January Transfer Window

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has insisted that while he is happy with his current squad, they are “keeping an eye on the market”.

The Buccaneers have had a great first half of the season, sitting in second place in the Betway Premiership, just two points behind Mamelodi Sundowns, while also qualifying for the CAF Champions League knockout stages and adding another MTN8 title.

Riveiro has continuously insisted he is happy with the quality in his squad, but also admitted they are always looking to strengthen the team, should an opportunity arrise.

“Standard answer. We have a fantastic group of players in terms of quality, talent and also numbers, as everybody knows,” he told journalists.

“But all the big teams, and we are one of them, have the responsibility and obligation to keep one eye in the market all the time, every time there is an opportunity.

“And that’s it. Things are permanently looking for, but not only in the players’ squad, also coaching staff – many things we try to do in order to be more and more competitive.

“If it’s not in this window, it’s going to be in the next one. But the club is obviously always trying to strengthen the team.

“It’s a market period now, let’s see what’s happening with all of us.”

Pirates return to action on Saturday when they will face Al Ahly in Cairo, with a draw enough to secure first spot in their CAFCL group.
