Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi has challenged his former side to bring back Tshegofatso Mabasa and Terrence Dzvukamanja, if they are to salvage their title hopes this season.
Mabasa is on loan at Moroka Swallows, while the Zimbabwe international signed for SuperSport United at the start of the season after his contract with the Sea Robbers ended in June.
Pirates were touted as possible challengers for the league after finishing second in the DStv Premiership last season, however, they found the going tough this term and find themselves in fifth position on the log at the halfway mark with 25 points from 16 games, 10 points less than log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have played only 13 matches.
With Pirates at times struggling to turn their dominance into goals, Vilakazi is of the opinion that they should look at bringing Mabasa and Dzvukamanja back.
“For me I’d rather call back Dzvukamanja and call back Mabasa,” he said on iDiskiTV.
“They are not ball players. Remember as a big team, if you want a result and there’s a big player there go and knock.
“I’d say to Pirates that we all make mistakes in life. We make mistakes thinking that these are the best decisions that we can take. But look if you want to challenge Sundowns you must have quality.
“So Pirates should let Dzvukamanja and Mabasa come back because I think you can work on other things like fixing the defense, playing with four, how they move and cover each other. Those things you can work on as a coach.
“But you need quality, especially going forward because sometimes you can have a good defense and good midfielders but if you don’t have a good finisher all the work that you are doing from the back, midfield going upfront will be a waste.”
