Veteran defender Thabo Matlaba went separate ways with Lamontville Golden Arrows at the end of the last season.

The 38-year-old former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana full-back struggled for a regular starting berth in the previous campaign.

He managed just six appearances across all competitions – five in the Betway Premiership and one in the Carling Knockout Cup.

Matlaba joined Abafana Bes’thende in April 2025, moving to the Durban-based outfit from Royal AM after Thwihli Thwahla’s expulsion from the league.

However, his short-term stint has come to an end with his contract set to officially expire on June 30. The experienced left-back joins six other players who have packed their bags.

As previously reported by this publication, Arrows parted company with Brandon Theron, Keenan Phillips, Sanele Shabalala, Gladwin Shitolo, Sazi Gumbi, and Nduduzo Mhlongo.

Meanwhile, Arrows have secured the services of promising forward Mnqobi Gumede from the ABC Motsepe League side FC Ravens, alongside highly-rated midfielder Ronaldo van Neel from Hungry Lions that compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
