Orlando Pirates legend Albert Bashin Mahlangu has spoken about the stand-out signings by his former side ahead of the new season, saying Sipho Mbule and Oswin Appollis will bring something dynamic to the team.
The former striker is renowned for his scoring prowess via thunderous shots in the late 1980s until the mid-90s. He spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo where he mentioned how much Mbule is needed in the Pirates midfield as another option.
Mahlangu was also part of the welcoming party for the new arrivals at Pirates and he revealed he spoke with the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder about realising he has been given a last chance to live up to his full potential following his widely reported disciplinary issues at former clubs.
“Appollis and Mbule are bringing a different dimension to the team,” Mahlangu told IDiski Times.
“Last year, the one player who held the midfield for us was [Makhehleni] Makhaula because Tito [Maswanganyi] and [Thalente] Mbatha were on and off.
“I think if Sipho behaves and proves to all of us that he is the talented player we believe him to be, he will play a highly influential role. For me, this is his last chance for him and if he wastes it, then his time in football will be finished.
“At some stage before they announced he would be signed by Pirates, I needed a one-on-one with this boy because he did not seem to realise that he had something special that we were seeing, and he was clearly not.
“But I hope he heard me from the little that I was able to tell him.”
