Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy and his new side Sabah FK have eliminated Gift Links’ AGF from the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.
The two South Africans met in the third qualifying round, with a place in the final playoff round up for grabs.
Links’ side had the upper hand in the first leg, beating Sabah 2-1 but the Azerbaijani side smashed the Danish champions 4-0 in the second to progress 5-2 on aggregate.
While Links played 64 minutes in the clash and was substituted with the score at 1-0 for the hosts, McCarthy remained an unused substitute.
McCarthy’s side will now face the winner of the tie between Isreali side Hapoel Be’er Sheva and Serbian giants Crvena zvezda in the playoff round, with their tie kicking off at 20:00 SAST.
The winner of that tie will progress to the League Phase of the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Links’ AGF will be transferred to the Europa League league phase.
