Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker commended the visit of astute coach Dr Pitso Mosimane at the club and the insight he shared ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Egyptian giants Zamalek SC.
‘Jingles’ spent a number of years coaching in Egypt for Al Ahly and came up against the White Knights on eight occasions, being unbeaten in all those meetings.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach gave Stellies’ side some insight on what to expect from the Egyptian giants with the Stellies mentor praising Mosimane for his achievements and agreed that it wasn’t gonna be a good thing not to invite the latter the club.
“Ja, it was nice to have Pitso,” Barker told the media.
“He was down with the North versus South Toyota competition. He has a big passion for youth football, so he was here just to see how the rugby is doing it. So, it’d be nice and great to see Pitso in that space and helping the broader South African football landscape.

“So, he was here so it would be not wise of us him being in Stellenbosch, not to use the expertise and knowledge that he has, obviously having coached in Egypt and having played a number of times against Zamalek.
“I think according to him; it was eight matches and hadn’t lost against them. So, it was nice to just hear from him, just the mentality, the emotional engagement that the players have, and just giving us a little bit of input in when he was at Sundowns, how they approach these types of games.
“So, to have that experience, somebody who has won the Champions League and played against Zamalek on a number of occasions, it was really good for us to hear as coaches and also for the players, also to get some insight from him. So, ja, it was really good.”
