Brandon Petersen has issued a rallying cry to his Kaizer Chiefs teammates and also spoke about returning into the Amakhosi goal despite tough competition.
The 27-year-old was in goal during his side’s 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup, which was only his third appearance of the campaign.
He has urged his teammates to put the cup exit behind them and focus on Tuesday’s DStv Premiership fixture against Cape Town City.
“There is a game on Tuesday. There is no time to sulk. We have to pick ourselves up, we have to fix things against Cape Town City, and go out and do what we do best,” he told the club’s media department.
“I have played against Cape Town City a few times. They enjoy keeping possession. We have prepared for their game plan.
“The guys are looking sharp and we are ready for them and looking forward to the game.”
He also spoke about returning into the starting XI for Stuart Baxter’s side, saying the competition among the goalkeepers is helping to develop his game.
“I have been working hard with the other goalkeepers and it was evident during the game. It felt good to be back. I am looking forward to the journey going forward,” he added.
“This was the third game I have been involved and my second full game. It was good to be back and playing.
“It was not the result we wanted but it felt good to be out there on the field. You want to be between the sticks, you don’t want to be on the sidelines and not playing.
“As a goalkeeper, chances don’t come often, but when they do you have to take it with both hands.”
Chiefs, who sit in fourth position on the log, will face ninth-placed City at the DHL Stadium at 19:30 on Tuesday evening.
