Sundowns Wants To Write Its Own History

Mamelodi Sundowns Co Head Coach Manqoba Mngqithi says they are expecting TP Mazembe to attack, when the two teams meet at Loftus Stadium in the CAF Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Sundowns have a 100% win record, and victory will guarantee a top spot finish in Group B, but Mngqithi warns that Mazembe are fully aware of their situation and will desperate to get the results.

Mngqithi says that Mazembe were tough opponents in Sundowns’ last CAF game, when Sundowns became the first team since 2009 to beat Mazembe in the DRC in continental football.

“They gave us a very, very tough match in Lumbubashi. But truth be told, we also want to make sure that we close this chapter of the Champions League as quickly as possible, so we’re looking for a chance to maybe get the three points,” Mngqithi said in the pre match presser.

“The most interest in playing the game tomorrow is that they must come at us and always an open game suits a team like Mamelodi Sundowns. We always strive on teams that will come strong against us and give us a tough, attacking us.”

“So we know what to expect from them. And we don’t take this game for granted. Because one, their backs are against the wall… because they know they have to get a result in our in our game tomorrow for them to stay in the hunt within the group.”

“Because if anything happens on the other side between Belouizdad and Al Hilal, they know their chances are getting limited, the number of games are getting smaller and smaller.”

“So we are fully aware, snoring can take for granted, and is not a game that is going to be easy. We are playing against the five times champions of the Champions League, we’re playing against a very formidable team, a team with a lot of pedigree”.

“But Sundowns also wants to write its own story and write its own history. So it’s very important that we approach this game with an open mind and give it our best shot.”

“And hopefully, tomorrow, we should we should be guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals, and that is our wish, and we are not taking that for granted, we’ll fight for this and give it our best shot.”
