Khanye – Give Maema A Chance At Bafana

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Hugo Broos needs to have a closer look at Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Neo Maema.

Maema was one of the leading players in the Brazilians’ 1-0 win against Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League, where he replaced the injured Themba Zwane in the starting XI.

The 27-year-old, who has been at Chloorkop for two-and-a-half seasons, is yet to be called up to the senior national team and Khanye drew comparisons between him and Thulani Serero.

“Neo Maema, I think that boy is talented. I think Bafana coaches must give the boy a chance,” he said on iDiski TV.

“I’m starting to see a player…no in fact it’s not the first time but it’s been a while. That boy in that position after Thulani Serero, I saw Serero, I saw a similar type of player.

“He plays the number 10 role nicely because he has variety. Today they [Sundowns] played differently with three, it was Shalulile [Peter], Mailula [Cassious] with him feeding both of them. He brought balance Nkululeko and if not he hit the target himself.

“You can even look at the goal and how he supported play. Mkhulise [Sphelele] always box-to-box there is no game where you find Mkhulise cold. Today he was fetching the ball and looking for that boy.

“I mean Neo would make himself available every time and he became a problem for the opponents because they wanted to close pockets but he stood behind their midfield. When he touched the ball it became a problem for the back three.”
