CAF Announces Shortlists For Women’s Awards

South Africans are still in contention in five of the seven women’s football categories for this year’s CAF Awards after the shortlists were announced on Wednesday.

Amongst the team awards, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are still in the race for the Club of the Year, while Banyana Banyana are on the shortlist for National Team of the Year.

Sundowns’ goalkeeper Andile Dlamini is still in the race for the Goalkeeper of the Year, while her 20-year-old Sundowns and Banyana teammate Nthabiseng Majiya remains in contention for the Young Player of the Year.

UWC Head Coach Thinasonke Mbuli (who is also Banyana assistant) made the shortlist for Coach of the Year, an award notable by the absence of Banyana coach Desiree Ellis, who has won it for the past four successive years.

It is only the Interclub Player of the Year and Player of the Year where South Africans dropped out of contention.
