Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has hinted at a possible first-team return for midfielder Thulani Mabaso after the youngster made his comeback in the DDC.
Mabaso featured for Vela Khumalo’s side as they secured a 3-2 victory over arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the reserve league Soweto Derby at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday.
The 22-year-old returned to action after recovering from an injury that had kept him on the sidelines. Mabaso made seven appearances in the top flight last season before suffering the setback.
Motaung believes the midfielder’s return to competitive football puts him a step closer to a return to the Chiefs first team.
“It was truly a gallant effort by the boys in their opening fixture,” said Motaung Jr, as per Kaizer Chiefs website.
“We were also happy to see senior team midfielder Thulani Mabaso play his first competitive match since picking up an injury a few months ago.
“His return means he is getting closer to match readiness for the first team.”
