Durban City captain Siphamandla Ncanana says Brooklyn Poggenpoel’s call-up to Bafana Bafana has provided huge inspiration to the club’s players.
Poggenpoel is the only player from outside the so-called ‘big three’ clubs in the current Bafana squad for the AFCON qualifiers.
He made his international debut on Wednesday, coming on for the injured Bathusi Aubaas in the first half against Eritrea in Egypt.
Ncanana believes Poggenpoel’s achievement has shown his teammates that representing the national team is within their reach.
He also believes the midfielder’s call-up could be the beginning of more Durban City players earning international recognition.
“It encourages us so much, it makes us want to do well, we want to see more of call-ups from the club,” Ncanana told iDiski Times.
“Having a representative there shows that there are opportunities for us to still make it.
“We just have to push each other as guys because he was also not going to be there without us. So, it’s so important for us as players to support each other.”
