Former Bafana Bafana number one goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune says he was a little worried with Ronwen Williams’ performance in Bafana’s 5-0 win over Eritrea in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Relebohile Mofokeng scored a brace with Sphephelo Sithole, Iqraam Rayners and Luther Singh netting the other goals to help Bafana stay on top of qualifying Group D with six points from two outings.
Despite the dominant performance, the opening minutes saw the East African side have a go as Bafana and at some point even forcing Williams to make a save.
Khune says the Mamelodi Sundowns goalie has to be mindful to not be over-confident as there are people who can substitute him.
“Yeah, it was a nervy start for Ronwen,” said Khune on SABC 2.
“Even in the second half, I was a bit worried. I think sometimes he’s over confident, and that’s when he makes mistakes.
“So I think he needs to eliminate that because maybe he was taking the opposition for granted because at the end of the day, if you concede like that, I mean, there’s Sipho Chaine there waiting.
“Look at the other error, he wasn’t switched on. Instead of tipping the ball over, he gave them half a chance.”
