Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has reserved special praise for centre-back Lebone Seema for his display in the team’s 1-0 win over Egypt in an international friendly on Sunday.
The friendly was Mosimane’s third one and third victory in a row since his return as head coach and Seema, 23, was one of the nine changes made by the coach to the starting line-up that featured in the 2027 AFCON qualifier over Eritrea.
The Orlando Pirates defender was partnered with Ime Okon at centre-back and played a full 90 minutes displaying an impressive performance on the night.
Mosimane was pleased with how Seema handled a problematic Manchester City superstar Omar Marmoush who was a bit of a handful in Cairo but ended up frustrated as his side couldn’t score against South Africa.
“I know Egyptian football, so we were prepared a lot. The ball will always come from full-backs hanging at the right-back was my player all the time,” Mosimane told Safa.net.
“Marmoush was a little bit of a problem you can see why he’s playing in the Premier League. He’s fast he’s quick, but Lebone is quick.
“So, it was good at least we didn’t change a lot in the centre-back. I didn’t want Lebone to play alone with [Khulumani] Ndamane on a big game and they start.
“So, I kept Ime a little bit to play him and I promised Ndamane hat he’ll come in the second half.”
