The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that no spectators will be allowed inside the stadium for Banyana Banyana‘s 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games first leg qualifier against Madagascar.

Banyana take on the islanders in a two-legged tie at the Toyota Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Friday and then on Tuesday next week.

Dr Desiree Ellis’ charges have already arrived in the City of Roses where they have undertaken their first training session.

SAFA has since explained that the request was made by Madagascar who are the hosts for the first match since they do not have a stadium that is up to standard to host international matches.

Football fans will however be able to witness Banyana in action in the second leg on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, at the same venue.

“The South African Football Association (SAFA) would like to inform the public that no spectators will be allowed in the first match of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifiers between Madagascar and Sasol Banyana Banyana on Friday, 9 October 2026,” SAFA said on its website.

“The decision comes following a request made by the visiting team Madagascar, who are the hosts of the first leg Olympic Games qualifier. This match will take place at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein and kicks off at 15h00.

“Fans will, however, be allowed to attend the second leg scheduled for the same venue with an 18h00 kick off. The fixture will take place on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.

“Meanwhile, Sasol Banyana Banyana have already arrived in Bloemfontein and held their first training session at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Tuesday morning.”
