Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has applauded midfielder Njabulo Blom’s display and the glimpses he is showing with each match after their stalemate against Kaizer Chiefs.
Blom, 26, joined the Cape Winelands side last month on a season-long loan deal from Indonesian side Borneo Samarinda.
He was handed his debut in the 1-1 Betway Premiership draw away at FNB Stadium on Tuesday where he played the whole game. The result saw Stellies in seventh place on the log with 11 points in eight outings while Amakhosi remained in fourth with 14 points from the same number of games.
Asked how he rated Blom’s performance on the night, Hunt said the midfielder showed power and quality though he was caught a few times.
“Well, you can see, I mean, when I had Blom at Chiefs, I moved him from a full-back into centre midfield,” said Hunt.
“He was magnificent for me here. I mean, we got to the Champions League semi-final, so he was magnificent. So, I signed [Darrel] Matsheke. The two of them were magnificent for me at Chiefs when I had them here from the kids. But obviously Darrel’s not fit as well.
“He didn’t even come. Njabulo hasn’t played for ages, so fitness. But you can see the power. You can see he’s got a little bit of quality, and he’s got power in midfield and that’s what we need. And I know he’ll only get better.
“As the game went on, he got caught a few times, but he’s got power. He’ll be good for us there’s no doubt I know that.”
