Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes rising talent Simphiwe Masilela is one of the best talents he’s ever worked with.

The 22-year-old playmaker has emerged as a prominent figure in the senior set-up after the exits of Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi and netted his first professional goal in the 3-0 win over TS Galaxy.

There’s been calls for more starts this season for the DStv Diski Challenge graduate after some exciting cameos from the bench, while in the same breath, some questioning if he’s ready to burden the weight of expectations.

He’s already had an assist against Durban City and has now featured in 11 games but only secured his second full 90 minutes on Tuesday evening since his senior promotion.

And Ouaddou feels he’s showing signs of a player who could become key this season already; “What I can tell you, he has all the attributes, all the potential, all the quality to express himself at the highest level.

“I can tell you, I have worked for six, seven years in development in France, in Michel Platini Academy. So, I have seen many young players, and he was one of the best I have seen.

“Sometimes when I try with a little but more experience than him, I’m older than him, I have seen a lot of players, when I try to put players in the right path for high level of football.”
