Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Dillon Sheppard has delved into the reason behind fielding a defensive unit in yet another stalemate.
The Glamour Boys dropped points for the third consecutive game and pick up their fifth draw of the 2026/27 campaign in their 1-1 stalemate against Stellenbosch FC at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Amakhosi came into the tie with injuries to the midfield trio of Lebohang Maboe, Adolf Mtasingwa and Siphesihle Ndlovu while attacker Langelihle Phili and goalkeeper Brandon Petersen remain sidelined with injuries they picked up before the recent international break.
This forced the home side to shuffle their pack prior to the Stellies tie with Sheppard further explaining why Reeve Frosler was deployed in midfield alongside Mbongiseni Mthethwa.
“With Reeve Frosler, why would you say he’s a defender?” the coach posed in his post-match presser.
“The reason with the line-up, obviously with the injuries that we’ve had, young Thulani [Mabaso] has just come back from injury.
“To throw him into a game where we’ve just come back from a FIFA break, I think it would’ve been unfair on him.
“So, we had to find alternatives. In pre-season, we worked with Reeve in the midfield and like I said he’s played that position before.
“With the three weeks we had, we’ve prepared with him. He did really, really well. So, that was the reason behind him.”
