Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a 1-0 first-leg defeat against Red Arrows at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, putting huge pressure on Fernando Da Cruz men ahead of the return fixture.

In a game that wasn’t on tv in South Africa, Da Cruz brought in Luke Baartman for Wandile Duba into his line-up compared to the draw against Stellenbosch FC.

However, Thabiso Monyane had to be taken off with an injury after just 30 minutes, being replaced by Thulani Mabaso.

From the feat of the home side, Arrows seem to have had the better chances in the opening stanza. Da Cruz reacted by replacing Baartman with Flavio Da Silva at the break.

Chiefs had their first shot on target after 53 minutes, and Da Cruz fruther mixed things up at the front, bringing on Duba and Etiosa Ighodaro after 71 minutes.

But five minutes later, the hosts opened the scoring via a header from Alassane Diarra following a corner.

Chiefs will need to overturn the result in the second leg at home, if they want to qualify for the Confederation Cup group stages.
