Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC extended their winning streak to 11 matches in all competitions after collecting their seventh successive win in the Egyptian Premier League.

Pyramids returned to Egypt after a successful away win in the CAF Champions League against South Sudan’s El Merriekh.

The home side took the lead in the sixth minute through Mohanad Lasheen as he scored his second goal of the season, taking his goal contribution to four.

Mokwena’s side didn’t take their foot off the pedal as they kept on piling the pressure on El-Gaish. After putting so much pressure, Pyramids got rewarded in the 15th minute through on-form Mostafa Ziko, who made it 2-0.

The 2024/25 CAF Champions League winners seemed to be cruising nicely, but El-Gaish pulled one back in the 35th minute through Ahmed Tarek to make it 2-1.

The high intensity of the game didn’t stop as Pyramids looked even more dangerous, trying to restore the two-goal lead but Youssef Obama’s goal was cancelled following a long VAR check.

The two-time Egyptian Cup winners extended their lead to 3-1 with 10 minutes remaining in normal time after Mahmoud Saber netted his second goal in a space of four days. Mahmoud Zalaka even made it 4-1 through a penalty in the 89th minute.

The 2025 CAF Super Cup winners remain top of the Egyptian Premier League with a five-point difference between them and second-placed Al Ahly SC, who have a game in hand.

Mokwena’s side will now shift their focus to the CAFCL second preliminary round second-leg clash against El Merriekh on Saturday evening.
