Golden Arrows assistant coach Ashley Makhanya has sent a warning to AmaZulu FC ahead of their highly anticipated Durban Derby this weekend, insisting that Abafana Bes’thende have a surprise in store for their city rivals.
AmaZulu will host Arrows at Princess MagogoStadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00, as the two cross-town rivals prepare to battle for local bragging rights.
Both teams head into the encounter on the back of victories in the Carling Knockout Cup last weekend, with Usuthu defeating Kruger United while Arrows secured a win over Chippa United.
However, Makhanya believes the appointment of new head coach Mandla Ncikazi could give Arrows an element of unpredictability heading into the derby, saying AmaZulu would be caught off guard by what his team have prepared.
“Yes, absolutely, if I am AmaZulu and I look at the performance of Golden Arrows [against Chippa], the quality of performance and goals, I’d worry for sure,” said Makhanya.
“And also now with coach Mandla here, a different coach, you don’t know what else he’s going to bring into the fixture, for sure, there’s going to be an element of surprise.
“So, we’re planning for AmaZulu, they won’t know what’s coming.”
