Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has insisted his team should’ve “killed the game” in the first half against Orlando Pirates and praised the performance of his team despite the defeat.

Da Cruz’s men lost 2-1 at a sold-out FNB Stadium with Yanela Mbuthuma and Tshepang Moremi scoring for the home side on either side of the break, while Pule Mmodi had netted a first-half equaliser.

The Frenchman insisted, his side should’ve run away with the scoreline before half-time, admitting they lacked experience in the second half.

“In the first half we must kill this game,” he said on SuperSport TV.

“Normally, 2 or 3-0 because the goal of Pirates, we’ve seen it’s offside and maybe there is a red card as well.

“If we score two or three goals, we’re gonna kill this game.

“In the second half, the last 20 minutes, with our young players we have a lack of experience. They don’t create chances because we have a lack of experience, we give them chances to score more goals.

“We know where we must improve.”

Despite the defeat, Da Cruz praised the performance of his young squad against the Soweto rivals.

“I’m very happy about the team, because we are a young team. We miss five injured players as well,” he added.

“But we played as we played today against a team like Pirates, so I want to congratulate the players.

“The last 20 minutes we were tired, but I want to congratulate my players.”
