Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz was critical of the Soweto Derby performance of referee Luxolo Badi, saying Orlando Pirates “played with 12 men”.
Amakhosi lost Saturday’s derby after goals by Yanela Mbuthuma and Tshepang Moremi for the Buccaneers, while Pule Mmodi netted for Chiefs.

After the match, Da Cruz insisted his side should’ve killed the game in the first half, but also criticised the performance of Badi, insisting the home side’s first goal was offside and the Buccaneers should’ve had a player sent off.
“Pirates play as 12 and not 11,” the Frenchman stated.
“The first goal is offside, and then a player of Pirates deserves a second yellow, meaning red card. And then we play 11 vs 10 and not 11 vs 11.
“In the second half we were less dangerous in our game. To finish the last 20 minutes we were tired.
“Maybe we concede two or three more goals, but it’s not chances Pirates created but because we are tired and lack of experience we give them opportunity to kill the game in transition.”
The result saw Chiefs stay in fifth place, despite suffering their first defeat of the Betway Premiership campaign. Amakhosi now have 14 points from nine games – 11 behind their Soweto rivals.
