Mamelodi Sundowns trio Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau and Teboho Mokoena as well as Masandawana coach Miguel Cardoso were nominated in different categories of the 2026 CAF awards.

The Brazilians were knocked out of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round by Wiliete SC and will not be able to defend their title, but they won the competition for a second time last season.

With the 2026 CAF awards being based on the 2025/26 campaign, several Sundowns players have reaped the rewards for their fine performances.

Mokoena, who once again cemented his place among the best midfielder’s on the continent, was rewarded for his superb campaign, which saw him score important goals for Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, has been nominated for the main award – the African Footballer of the Year, where he will compete with the likes of former winners Achraf Hakimi and Sadio Mane, among others.

Both Mudau and Mokoena were nominated in the CAF Men’s Interclub Player of the Year category, celebrating the performances of players based in Africa.

In addition, Sundowns and Bafana captain Williams was nominated among the Men’s Goalkeepers of the Year. Williams won the same award in 2024 already, when he was also named CAF Interclub Player of the Year.

But Sundowns didn’t only show excellence on the pitch, as coach Miguel Cardoso had reached his third successive CAF Champions League final. After losing the previous two, the 2024 one with Esperance and the 2025 version with Sundowns, he finally cemented his name in African history by helping Masandawana to lift their second star.

As a consequence, the Portuguese tactician has been nominated in the CAF Men’s Coach of the Year category, where he will compete with the likes of former Morocco head coach Walid Regragrui, he successor Mohamed Ouahbi and Senegal coach Pape Thiaw, among others.

Sundowns themselves were nominated in the CAF Men’s Club of the Year category, while Bafana Bafana also made the shortlist for the African Men’s National Team of the Year.
