Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football after his dispute with the Portugal Football Association.
Ronaldo, 41, has made 234 appearances for Portugal, scoring 146 goals and setting up 45 more.
He made his debut in August 2003 and had an international career spanning over two-and-a-half decades, but leaves a bit on a sour note.
He left the Portugal camp during the previous international break and published a heavy-worded statement over alleged “broken promises” from new head coach Jorge Jesus.
Ronaldo has now announced his retirement, releasing a five-minute speech on social media, stating “Portugal will always be in my heart”.
Ronaldo won the 2016 UEFA European Championship, as well as the UEFA Nations League in 2018/19 and 2024/25.
He also played at six different World Cup tournaments, scoring 11 goals across 27 games in one of the most outstanding international careers of our time.
