Royal AM CEO Sinky Mnisi has opened up on his club handing out money to their players in front of TV cameras.
The club came under fire after seemingly handing out bonuses to their players on the field in the aftermath of their 2-1 win over Maritzburg United on Sunday.
Club chairman Andile Mpisane as well as president Shauwn Mkhize were taking out the lumps of cash from a brown envelope and handed the money to their players.
However, Mnisi has insisted that people should focus more on the team’s performances instead of “monetary issues”, before revealing that the club will also donate R20 000 to two academies in the coming days,” he told Nyiko Sithole on the Ta Mitlangu show of Xitsonga SABC radio.
“People like to rush into conclusion without finding out exactly what is happening; actually Andile is a young chairman I may say, so these boys have decided that they are two academies that we wanted to donate jerseys and money.
“So they had that if they win against Maritzburg, including our MDC team if they win they will take money to donate these academies.
“Surely we have been giving bonuses even in GladAfrica we did but we never given it in public space, we could do it privately, at some point we promised them two million and we gave them in a proper way.
“So it won’t happen that this time we come to show people, it is not what people are saying.
“And to show our intentions that are very clear, even tomorrow we are inviting a lot of media houses to see because we are donating 20-thousand to the two academies of underprivileged kids.
“Ten-thousand each and some jerseys each for their males, so I don’t want people to focus on that, let’s focus on the positives of Royal AM.
“We have gone through a lot as a team, we have been criticised for winning the league in the first division.
“And people say a lot, but let them look into the results that we are giving at the moment, let’s look at how we beat teams and forget about the monetary issues and focus on how we beat people.”
Royal AM have climbed into fourth place on the log after collecting four wins from their first six games. They will now face Marumo Gallants before an enticing encounter against Orlando Pirates awaits.
