Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly hammered USGN of Niger to book their ticket for this year’s CAF Champions League group stage.
The first leg had ended 1-1, but Saturday’s win saw Al Ahly go through 7-2 on aggregate.
Mohamed Sherif scored the early opener for the Mosimane’s side after a mistake at the back handed him the ball in the box and he made no mistake from close range.
Mohamed Magdy Afsha made it 2-0 for the host after just 16 minutes after a fine cross by Mahmoud Kahraba left him free in front of the empty net.
Ali Lofty was forced into a fine save in the 23rd minute when he pushed a shot from outside the box around the post.
Sherif had a chance to make it 3-0 for Al Ahly but he missed a one-on-one with the keeper in the 28th minute.
The visitors pulled one back in the 34th minute when Issoufou Hinsa finished a superb team move with a placed shot in the far corner.
Al Ahly almost scored a third in the 40th minute but the USGN goalkeeper came up with a superb save after a free-kick was flicked on towards the far post.
Afsha restored Al Ahly’s two-goal lead in the 57th minute following a brilliant individual run.
Mosimane’s men continued their rout in the 64 minute when when Hussein El-Shahat scored the fourth after playing a little dummy on the goalkeeper.
Kahraba completed his brace and made it 5-1 in the 68th minute thanks to a well-placed shot from outside of the box.
Al Ahly, though, were still not done and ended the sixth goal in the 89th minute thanks to another well-placed shot from outside the box, this time by Hamdy Fathi.
The dominant victory will be welcomed by Mosimane after the recent criticism he’s received by Egyptian media.
