City Beat Arrows In 7 Goal Thriller

Despite a spirited fight back from Golden Arrows, Cape Town City walked away 4-3 winners in their DStv Premiership game at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.

Earlier in the day Maritzburg United beat TS Galaxy 1-0.

Cape Town City – Golden Arrows

An early chance for Fagrie Lakay in the fourth minute went wide of goal, while Craig Martin forced Maximilian Mbaeva into a save five minutes later.

Mbaeva was called into action again in the 17th minute, but he easily saved Lakay’s long range attempt.

And the pressure paid off, as City took the lead in the 21st minute, with Lakay finishing off after being set up by Martin.

It was 2-0 two minutes later, as Thami Mkhize ran into the box, rounded Maeva and a defender and scored into an empty net.

Mduduzi Mdantsane made it 3-0 in the 39th minute, as he took advantage of a mistake from Maeva, and Mdantsane robbed the goalkeeper and chipped the ball in.

Eric Tinkler’s men were comfortably in charge at halftime, and Surprise Ralani came close to making it four in the 50th minute, but his attempt was stopped on the line by the Arrows defence.

Martin did make it four in the 58th minute, as he was set up by Lakay with a low cross, and the speedy Martin made no mistake. 4-0.

Four down, the visitors tried to find a way back into this game, and hit back instantly, as Pule Mmodi pulled one back for Arrows two minutes later to make it 4-1.

Arrows continued to press and were rewarded when they were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute after a foul by substitute Khanyiso Mayo. Nkanyiso Sibisi stepped up and put the ball past Hugo Marques, 4-2.

And Arrows got another in the 86th minute as Dlamini’s effort from inside the box beat Marques to make it 4-3.

It was all Arrows in the last half hour, and they continued to fight for an equaliser, but City were able to hold on for the three points.

Maritzburg United 1-0 TS Galaxy.

Earlier in the day at the Harry Gwala Stadium, Maritzburg United beat TS Galaxy 1-0.

After a goalless first half, Maritzburg grabbed the lead almost immediately after the break, thanks to an own goal from Bathusi Aubaas.

And that goal would end up being the decider, as Ernst Middendorp’s team pick up their third victory of the season, while bottom-placed Galaxy still look for their first.
