Mohafe Bemoans Sundowns Treatment After Defeat

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe has claimed they were not treated well by Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their clash at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday afternoon.

Sundowns secured back to back victories over Polokwane after the 1-0 win at Seshego Stadium mid-week, before a routine 3-0 victory at home to move five points clear of Orlando Pirates in second place.

The goals arrived from Iqraam Rayners, Tashreeq Matthews and Nuno Santos while Rise and Shine saw a penalty missed by club captain Puleng Marema.

But before reflecting on the defeat, Mohafe spoke of the alleged mistreatment from Masandawana on their arrival in Tshwane.

“We played a match that we lost, but it was very bad reception from the hosts, they were not so human today and that’s not good at all, you cannot treat your visitors like this,” he said.

“But going into the match we tried our best, we failed – the decisions that were made, were bad, but we learn from them, we had a better first half defensively, even though we conceded a poor goal, our marking was not good.

“In the second half, we wanted to equalise, and we opened the back door, so for us to want to draw, opened the floodgates, because from then, Sundowns had a good passage of football, combinations, going through the middle when we tried to force them wide.

“They struggle on the flanks, because if you allow spaces in the middle you will be exposed, which they did in those moments before scoring, our keeper kept us in the game, we could have lost by five or six and then missing a penalty, missing a 1v1 – it should have been 2-2 before they scored the third goal. But we learn from those.”

Sundowns moved to 64 points on the log, five ahead of Orlando Pirates who have a game in hand, while Polokwane remained sixth 37 points – five from Siwelele FC in ninth.
