Former Ajax Amsterdam defender Dean Solomons has started training with Maritzburg United as he looks to revive his career in the DStv Premiership.
Solomons left South Africa after earning a contract with the Eredivisie giants upon a trial from the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town and spent three seasons in the Netherlands.
With one season in the U19s and two in the Eerste Divisie with the Jong Ajax side, he was eventually released before spending one season in the Allsvenskan with Varbergs BoIs.
However, he failed to establish himself with the Swedish top-flight side where he was alongside four other South Africans, Keanin Ayer, Tashreeq Matthews, Luke le Roux and Ryan Moon.
While Moon is likely to be offered a deal since impressing during his training stint at the Team of Choice, Solomons started his assessment on Wednesday as he looks to earn himself a contract.
United have shown the willingness to rope in South African talents who previously spent time abroad with the likes of Genino Palace and Rushine De Reuck both returning home after stints in Portugal.
Solomons will be aiming to have a similar trajectory as the latter, who was also highly regarded when emerging from then Cape Town-based African Soccer Development (ASD) Academy before eventually making a name for himself in KZN en route to winning the PSL Defender of the Season and a move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
