Malesela Not Happy Despite Second Win

Royal AM co-coach Dan Malesela has explained why the technical team were not happy despite their 3-1 win over Chippa United in Gqeberha.

‘Thwihli Thwahla’ maintained their winning start to the 2022/23 campaign on Wednesday when they beat Chippa at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening.

On the form, Andre de Jong was too hot to handle for Chilli Boys and managed to grab a brace, before former Swallows FC striker Ruzaigh Gamaldien put the nail in the coffin by scoring the third goal.

Malesela and the technical team, though, were not happy with the way the team played as they feel like the team can perform better.

“Not the prettiest of matches, of displays from us. First, we struggled with the condition, because a little bit of due and the ball was just slipping away,” he told reporters.

“Also I think in the first half whether the players were wearing the right type of soccer boots was another issue. But we struggled to connect passes, we struggled to play going forward.

“On the flip side, we managed to score goals. I would be worried if they were not created because the other one somebody can say it comes from the free-kick but that free-kick was us building to that goal, it’s good that we did that.

“But come the second, half give instructions, most of it was not followed but you can not fault the players because these are human beings, they panic at some moments. Especially when they have a Chippa team that was just coming forward relentlessly.

“We cannot be selfish and start complaining about this thing, we appreciate the three points. And you could see you could tell, we were not that happy, everybody was not that happy because we know how we can perform.

“But that’s a sign of a competing team, you win and you worry about how you win. If you can have that mentality then it goes well for the future of this team.”

The KwaZulu Natal-based side are the only team that has started the 2022/23 campaign with two wins and will now make a trip to Cape Town on Saturday as they will face Stellenbosch FC.
