Coal City Wizards general manager Thulani Khumalo has refuted reports, suggesting that Kaizer Chiefs, has approached the Mpumalanga-based outfit with an offer to purchase their Hollywoodbets Super League status.
Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung was quoted earlier this month saying the club, was at an advanced stage of launching its women’s team, a step taken by PSL sides Mamelodi Sundowns, Royal AM and TS Galaxy.
Buying the Wizards’ status seems to not be it as Khumalo told iDiski Times that people need to respect both Chiefs and Wizards who are still mourning the loss of their chairman Mabu Moroaswi.
“It’s not true. We know that Kaizer Chiefs is a big brand that we must respect. We don’t want to speak badly about a big brand, they never approached us. They won’t do that, especially during these trying times. There is no way,” he said on Wednesday.
“I think at another time we will see what will transpire but at the moment we are giving respect to the chairman. We are ready for this season.
“As I’m speaking to you the team is busy with preparations for our first game, our home game against University of Western Cape (UWC).
“At the same time, I think people must have respect [and not speculate]. We are still mourning a young man that took his time [to build the team].
“This year the team is turning 25 years and someone just writes a story as if we are selling bananas or something that you can get in a store. This is a big brand and one that needs to be respected.”
Khumalo further added that the news has caused a bit of panic amongst their players.
