Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Mothobi Mvala has made an admission on how he handles criticism from social media and also discussed his strengths and weaknesses.
The 27-year-old joined Masandawana from Highlands Park in 2020 and has since made 40 appearances for the club.
He’s now opened up on taking the step from Highlands Park to playing for the reigning DStv Premiership champions, saying his teammates and the technical team have helped him adjust.
“For me coming to a big club like Mamelodi Sundowns, I knew it was not going to be easy,” he told the club’s media department.
“I had to adjust to how the team plays and that is due to the help I got from the technical team and the players as well. What has helped me the most is doing the right things at the right time.
“This has helped me to identify my strengths and weaknesses, the latter I am always looking to address. I have also been doing some extra work to elevate my game.
“I have learned to stay away from social media and focus on my game so that I am always focused on the ball.”
The Bafana Bafana international also admitted he’s not a trickery player but has other strengths on the pitch.
“I am not a stylish player nor the kind of player who is keen on tricks. I consider myself a very tactical player, as I can defend well.
“One thing I am always working on is my finishing. My teammates and the technical team are fully aware of my incredible shot power and they have constantly created an avenue for me to hone my skills.
“I hope I would be able to play more games which would increase my chances of scoring more often.”
Broos Explains Mvala Re-call
Meanwhile, Bafana coach Hugo Broos recalled Mvala to his squad for the friendlies against Guinea and France despite the midfielder not making the preliminary selection.
Broos, however, explained that the Downs player adds something the team has been lacking against Ghana.
“I think we missed Mvala in that game (against Ghana). He is the one who is very aggressive,” Broos said during his squad announcement.
“We missed him a little bit and we saw in some other games that our midfield was a little bit light.
“So, when I see the guys of Orlando Pirates playing, there is power. When I see the midfield of Sundowns, there’s power. So we were looking a little bit for that.”
