Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu has started training with DStv Premiership club AmaZulu in order to keep fit after returning to South Africa.
Xulu, 30, has been a mainstay in the South Africa national team since Hugo Broos’ appointment with his partnership alongside Rushine de Reuck earning widespread plaudits.
And despite cancelling his contract with Israeli giants Hapoel Tel Aviv after an alleged fallout with the head coach, he retained his spot in the national team as they look set to face France and Guinea this month.
This website can confirm that Xulu – who is ineligible to sign for any club in any country where the transfer window is currently closed – has now started training with Usuthu.
Xulu joined up with Benni McCarthy’s outfit on Tuesday, which provides the player with a competitive environment due to the squad competing in the CAF Champions League.
Broos mentioned during his squad announcement on SABC Sport that Xulu’s fitness should be adequate for the current international break but his club situation could hinder him in June for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Having made his international debut a decade ago under Steve Komphela, Xulu has amassed 14 appearances for the senior national team, starting five of the six World Cup qualifiers under Broos.
