It’s A Mental Game Now – Duncan Lechesa

Polokwane City head coach Duncan Lechesa believes the fight for outright promotion in the Motsepe Foundation Championship is a mental game more than anything at this stage of the season.

Lechesa said this after his side picked just a single point against University of Pretoria, to move to second position on the Championship log with 47 points, while Casric Stars defeated La Masia 1-0 to rise to the summit with 50 points and third-placed Cape Town Spurs dropped points against JDR Stars.

With the title race looking like it’s going down to the wire, some clubs in previous seasons have used money to motivate players for the final push, a conversation Lechesa says hasn’t come up in his camp.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder adds that a lot of thinking is going to be required from his side.

“It’s a mental game now you know, it’s a mental game and thinking ability because it’s almost the end,” Lechesa told iDiski Times.

“You cannot be fit now. There is no way you can be fit now with five games to go. We need to think more and fight more.

“We can’t talk about money before we get [promoted] but I think our chairman knows and everybody knows that we cannot talk about the money now.

“The minute we talk about the money things go wild, players go wild thinking about money more than the job that they have to do”

Rise and Shine are away at La Masia in Tsakane in their next league game on Friday afternoon, while Cape Town Spurs host Casric Stars in Cape Town.
