Sven Vandenbroeck announced his exit from Wydad Athletic Club on Sunday evening after their Throne Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Raja Atheltic Club.
In what was Josef Zinnbauer’s first official match in charge alongside Faldu Davids and Darian Wilken in the dugout they pulled off a famous victory in the Casablanca Derby.
Arsene Zola’s 17th-minute own goal proved the difference at the Stade Mohamed V as they set up a final against RS Berkane, a chance for both sides to secure a place in the 2023/23 CAF Confederation Cup competition.
And the Belgian tactician confirmed that his short-term deal, which held an option to extend by one year would not be activated.
“There is one logic, that when you come after with championships on offer, and you do not win the Champions League, nor the local championship, and you are eliminated from the semi-finals of the Throne Cup, this means that your mission is not completed,” he said after the game.
“Then you have to be logical because in order to achieve titles, someone else must take over the task.”
Vandenbroeck steered Wydad past Sundowns but lost to Al Ahly in the final of the CAF Champions League while finishing runners-up to Botola Pro champions ASFAR.
