Stellenbosch FC have unveiled their nine new signings and also held their 2022/23 awards on Tuesday afternoon, with former winger Junior Mendieta bagging two awards.
Mendieta, 30, has already left the club to join Mamelodi Sundowns but his former club still celebrated his brilliant 2022/23 campaign, which earned him his move to Chloorkop.
After scoring 10 goals and setting up nine more, Mendieta was named the club’s Footballer of the season and also the Players’ Player of the Season, but he couldn’t make it to the awards.

Stellenbosch also unveiled their nine new signings so far, with the transfers of Oscarine Masuluke, Basil Mphahlele, Ismaël Olivier Touré, Thabo Moloisane and Genino Palace all being announced by the club before Tuesday.
Salifu Colley and Oura Anicet were also confirmed Tuesday before awards lunch, while the signings of Prince Amponsah and Thulani Mini were only announced at the event.
Amponsah, a 18-year-old centre-back spent his formative years with Scores Football Academy in Ghana before a short stint at the Ubuntu FC Academy landed him at Stellenbosch for a professional trial. During this trial, Amponsah toured with the SFC U-21 team to India to compete in the international NextGen tournament before signing a professional contract with the club.
The surprise signing was Mini, who joined the club from Chippa United and only arrived 10 minutes before the awards lunch. The 21-year-old left-back featured 11 times for Chippa last season.
Meanwhile, Kgaogelo Sekgota will become the club’s 10th signing ahead of the 2023/24 season after Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the mutual termination of his contract.
