SA U17 Star Set For Overseas Assessment

South Africa U17 midfielder Gabriel Amato is set to undergo an assessment at Belgian Pro League side KVC Westerlo.

Amato, 16, was one of the standout players for South Africa when they took part in the U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria – where they reached the knockout stages.

The Cape Town City talent has now been confirmed to train with the Belgian club for two weeks and will be departing for Europe this weekend.

While it proves to be a promising step for the precious talent, he will only legally be able to make a move abroad to sign a professional contract once he turns 18, per the latest FIFA regulations.

However, it’s likely to be an invaluable experience for the teenager who’s been touted as a future star for the Citizens and the South Africa national team.

Westerlo failed in their pursuit to sign Thapelo Maseko in the current window and previously had Lyle Foster on their books before his record transfer to Premier League side Burnley.
