Cape Town City lost 2-1 to Motsepe Foundation Championship leaders Kruger United on Wednesday, with the result all but ending their direct promotion hopes.
The Citizens entered the game in second place, five points behind Kruger and could’ve closed their gap on the leaders to just two points with four games remaining.

However, goals by Tulane Ndlela and Morne Peter Nel saw the home side secure an important victory, with Therlo Moosa scoring for the Citizens.
The result saw Kruger climb to 52 points, eight ahead of City, who stayed on 44 and dropped to third place.
Meanwhile, Hungry Lions beat University of Pretoria 4-2 to climb into second with 47 points, followed by City with 44 points.
Milford FC also had a chance to move to 47 points, but lost 1-0 to Venda FC thanks to a late goal by Lerato Mofokeng.

Bakgakga remain rooted at the bottom of the MFC log with just 19 points from 26 games, nine away from Midland Wanderers in the first non-relegation spot.
