Zitha Kwinika has no doubt that Sibongiseni Mthethwa will make an impact at Kaizer Chiefs, saying he is a strong boy.
The reunion between the two players after Chiefs triggered the release clause of Mthethwa last week to capture the midfielder strongman.
Both Kwinika and Mthethwa played together at Stellies, helping Steve Barker’s side to finish fourth in the DStv Premiership season in the 2021/22 season, their record high in the league, coming very close to qualifying for CAF inter-club competitions.
Kwinika, before Mthethwa joined the club to give his side muscle in the second half to finish in the top four, had already caught Chiefs’ eyes and Amakhosi came knocking to rejoin the club along with attacking talisman Ashley Du Preez.
“Coming to Mthethwa, I think he is a good player and I think he will make it,” said Kwinika to iDiski Times.
“He is very strong, very humble. Sometimes in life, it is where you start from wherever he started to wherever he is now, it is a good progression for him now.
“I think he will definitely come to the team and help add value.”
As Stellies finished fourth then, they beat Chiefs home and away, with Kwinika was at his best, with an assured performance and was named Stellenbosch Player of the Season in the club’s annual awards.
However, he has not shown the same performance at Chiefs he was brought back for. However, he explained that playing at Chiefs is a different ball game and expectations are always high.
“From where I was and to where I am right now, I’m in a better space and different environment,” said Kwinika.
“But that on its own it is beside the instructions, what not, it’s just how you gel as a team and how you play. But to be honest with you, it plays a role in where you are, what you are playing for, and what is at stake.
“At Stellenbosch, let me not say at Stellenbosch, but other teams when you play the game and a draw is enough, but here it is always about winning [and] winning – we need to get results.
“That on its own makes it interesting, makes it fun – it puts you in that pressure area and that is how you grow as a human being and as a footballer.”
Chiefs host Sekhukhune United, who just like Stellies then did the double over Amakhosi last season, at Moses Mabhida Stadium later tonight.
