The Premier Soccer League has 21 players selected in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations preliminary squads outside the Bafana Bafana selection.
While the top two tiers of South African football have often dominated numbers across the continent as representatives at the continental showpiece, the current number is impressive.
In the absence of Zimbabwe and Malawi, nine different countries have provisionally called up some of the standout talents in the PSL.
Namibia leads the pack with no less than ten players, led by captain and Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Peter Shalulile – who will be a key figure in their group with Bafana, Tunisia and Mali.
Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali earned a call from Nigeria, whose head coach Jose Peseiro recently visited the club after an impressive start to the season.
