Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has given injury updates on Kegan Johannes, Arthur Sales and Erwin Saavedra.
Johannes joined Sundowns in the past transfer window from their arch rivals SuperSport United, and he was recovering from an injury when Downs signed him. The defender is yet to make his official debut at Sundowns as he is still recovering from another injury setback.
Another new signing, Arthur Sales made his debut against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 quarter-final clash where Downs were eliminated. But since then, the 22-year-old has been absent with an injury, however Mngqithi now confirmed that the Brazilian is back in full training.
Meanwhile, Erwin Saavedra returned from loan is yet to make his impact at Sundowns this season. He, too, has been troubled by injuries, but Mngqithi confirmed that he was close to being on the teamsheet against Royal AM in the Betway Premiership.
“Kegan is very close, we are hoping for him to start full training probably let’s say next week but he very close,” Mngqithi said to the media.
“There are a lot of activities that have taken place, the biokineticists I think they have given him to the conditioning guys now and he is very close.
“He had a setback, he was already far ahead and he had a stack in training that took him backwards a little bit. He played one friendly against Sekhukhune United, if I’m not mistaken unfortunately after that he had a setback and he had start back again.
“He [Arthur Sales] is also very close. He is back in full training now, he is training with the team, he should be back if not this weekend probably next weekend he might be back but it will depend on the competition within the group because he is coming from an injury and other players are in top form at the moment.
“Saavedra is training fully, he was already eligible to be part of the squad for this match , he was very close but he is also back training and he is looking very good in training.”
