Larsen On Magesi Cup Aspirations – We’re Not Naive

Magesi head coach Clinton Larsen says they are not naive to think beating cup kings Orlando Pirates means they will win the Carling Knockout.

The minnows shocked Pirates with a 3-2 win at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon to book a place in the last-eight in what was their debut in the competition.

However, Larsen is aware that it could have been a one-off shock, and they will need to be realistic about their chances.

“Firstly, I’m not naive to think that this victory means we can go on and win this cup, I’m not that naive, what it does do is give us a little spring in our step and look forward to the next round,” Larsen said.

“We will try and put in a better performance than we done [against Pirates] and see what happens. We’re the rookies in the league, first time in the cup, first time in the league so we have to earn our respect and work hard to earn that respect from our peers.

“We will continue to do that and hopefully with more victories in the future, but I’m not naive and neither is our club to think we can now go and beat everybody because we have beaten Orlando Pirates. It’s a feather in our cap, yes but every game is different.

“So, we just have to wait for our next opponent [TS Galaxy], prepare as best we can and give an honest performance and hope the result is a positive one.”

Magesi return to league action on Sunday when they travel to Athlone Stadium to face Cape Town City (15h00).
