Shalulile On The Double As Downs Cruise Past 10-Man City

Mamelodi Sundowns moved three points behind Orlando Pirates with a comfortable 3-0 win over Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday evening.

With Pirates moving six points clear with their 2-0 win over TS Galaxy in Mbombela on Tuesday evening, the pressure was slightly lifted for Sundowns to deliver against one of their bogey sides in the league.

City were the only side to beat Sundowns, on the final day of the season, ending their homes of an invincible campaign at the same venue.

But they made light work of the out-of-form side led by Eric Tinkler with Peter Shalulile bagging a brace on either side of a stunning effort from Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

The Namibian and Brazilian scored in the opening half as Sundowns superiority in all departments were rewarded, and Shalulile, who took eight games to open his account this season added another in the second half, to make it three goals in three games now.

It was a matter of exercising the demons of their 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City over the weekend where they failed to register a single shot on target.

Substitute Arthur Sales could have made it 4-0 late on but fluffed a sitter over the crossbar as his wait for his first competitive goal in Sundowns colours, since his R65-million transfer from SK Lommel was completed in the off-season.

The win for Masanawana moved them up to 15 points from their opening six games of the season, three behind the unbeaten Buccaneers.
