Mohafe Downplays Lack Of Squad Depth

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe is not looking to bolster his squad ahead of the January transfer window and is satisfied with the depth in his side.

City were without injured striker Hlayisi Chauke and the suspended midfield duo of Emmanuel Kambala and Ndamulelo Maphangule in their 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants at the weekend to stay in third spot.

The Rise and Shine mentor is adamant that the absence of the above-mentioned players has not disadvantaged the Limpopo side in any way, and if anything, they have highlighted the quality they have on their bench.

“As for the striker [Chauke] we’ve got enough players to play up front,” Mohafe answered an iDiski Times question on potential moves in January.

“And as for the structure, I think we are well man we are okay. We are okay. So, the depth that we are having it’s also good. We didn’t miss Kambala and Maphangule that much because when you check both of the sets, they play differently. The Kambala and Maphangule, they play different to the way these two has played.

“You check the speed element between the two sets, you check the passing element between the two sets. So, you can say our plan to bring these two and the forced substitute that we had, they helped us because we didn’t realize that we have something good on the bench, but we have a good depth.”

With Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi heavily linked with a big money move to Orlando Pirates next month, it remains to be seen if Mohafe and his technical team will be forced to eventually look for reinforcements to consolidate their fine form.
