Teko On How Downs Dominance Separated Men From Boys

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfield maestro Teko Modise hailed his former side, claiming they taught Orlando Pirates a real football lesson.

The defending Betway Premiership champions displayed sheer class as they put the Buccaneers to the sword with a rampant 4-1 scoreline to extend their lead at the summit of the standings.

Miguel Cardoso’s charges were however brought back to earth on Tuesday night after a narrow 1-0 defeat to in-form TS Galaxy as they suffered their second defeat of the campaign.

‘The General’ also added that the match between Sundowns and Pirates was a statement of why the Tshwane giants have been on top for so long.

“We had so many opportunities to increase the lead honestly,” Modise said on the Pitchside Podcast.

“And I think also because I spoke about how this fixture is such a blockbuster.

“It was one of those games as well to separate men from boys and to show why Mamelodi Sundowns has been the most dominant team for so long.

“And I think it was about time as well to remind because we remember as well as to how we started the season.

“Once you’re at the top for too long, everyone wants to drag you down and that was the case with Mamelodi Sundowns this season.

“And I think that’s the game that reminded everybody as to then why Sundowns is Sundowns.

“And I strongly believe, it should’ve been more goals and it certified as to then who Footballer of the Year is.

“And we all know who the Footballer of the Year should be.”
