Benni To Lure His Trusted Duo To Kenya

Benni McCarthy is set to be joined by familiar faces as he takes over as the new head coach of the Kenya national team this week.

McCarthy worked with Moeneeb Josephs as his goalkeeper coach during his time at AmaZulu, while Vasili Manousakis worked alongside him at Usuthu and Cape Town City.

And upon agreeing to take over as the new leader of the East African nation, both have been requested to join his technical team.

With Josephs, his former Orlando Pirates teammate, the deal is more straightforward, as the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper expected to travel with McCarthy for the unveiling this week – Manousakis won’t be.

He’s currently contracted to Cape Town Spurs as their assistant coach, as they are embroiled in a relegation scrap in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) may need to open talks with Spurs in order to get McCarthy’s trusted assistant coach in order to lure him to the Harambee Stars from his current contract.

It marks a surprising turn of events for McCarthy, who comes off a stint as the first team strikers coach at Premier League side Manchester United.
