Official: PSL Coach Resigns

AmaZulu have confirmed that co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has resigned with immediate effect, while Arthur Zwane will continue as sole head coach.

In October last year, AmaZulu announced Zwane and Vilakazi as co-coaches following Pablo Franco Martin’s unsuccessful start to the season, which saw Usuthu languish in the relegation zone.

The duo had a good start and pushed the team to fifth place in the league, but they were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup in the Round of 16 by Marumo Gallants away from home.

However, on Tuesday, Usuthu announced Kanu’s departure upon his own wish, with Zwane taking over as solo head coach, as earlier reported by iDiski Times.

“AmaZulu Football Club has announced the resignation of Co-Head Coach Vusi Vilakazi, who wished to step down with immediate effect,” a statement read.

“In his letter of resignation, Vilakazi referred to the personal matters (which) require his urgent attention, making it impossible for him to fully commit to his responsibilities at the club.

“Club President Sandile Zungu has accepted Vilakazi’s request to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect. This transition leaves Arthur “Phakimpi” Zwane as the sole Head Coach, going forward.

“Bidding farewell to Vilakazi, Zungu expressed his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the entire Usuthu family — players, technical and administrative personnel, supporters and board members — we wish Mpiyakhe all the best in his future endeavours.”

“AmaZulu will return to action in the Betway Premiership on 02 March, Sunday when they face Cape Town City at King Zwelithini Stadium.”
