Da Gama Heaps Praise On Chiefs

Magesi head coach Owen da Gama has heaped praise on the quality of Kaizer Chiefs after their 1-0 defeat at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The two sides were fairly even in the opening half, with neither keeper making a notable save that would live long in the memory, neither create a clear-cut chance.

However, Chiefs managed to up their tempo with several changes made by head coach Nasreddine Nabi and they managed to break down the Carling Knockout champions.

“The first half we thought we were still in there, we could have broken [in a few counters] and scored, but unfortunately it never occurred and against teams like Chiefs when you get an opportunity you must take it,” he said.

“But let’s be honest Chiefs were the better team today, they attacked more and deserved the win – that’s how football works, as you know, we’re babies in this league, we’re being trying to fix here and there since I came in, it’s a process.

“Sometimes we get it right, with very good performances, but this was not one, we gave the ball away unnecessary, not defending well but there was no excuses. In saying that, [Samuel] Darpoh was Man of the Match against SuperSport, and he couldn’t make it today.

“He’s important organising the defence, he’s injured, we needed to make another plan, it didn’t work as well as we planned, we gave it our best shot against a wounded team. Chiefs are a very good team who gave a very good performance against Sundowns.

“We tried to play as best as possible but all we can say is congratulations to Chiefs who won the game.”

Magesi will now turn their attention to a relegation six-pointer next Tuesday against Richards Bay at Seshego Stadium.
