Adams Scores 119th Minute Winner To Book NBS Semi v Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 1-0 win against Sekhukhune United to advance to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup – where they will meet Kaizer Chiefs next month.

While both sides were much-changed with back-three defences, it proved to be a match of frustration for Sundowns as Sekhukhune goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner made seven saves throughout the game that was forced into extra-time.

The home side enjoyed the bulk of possession throughout against Eric Tinkler’s side who largely looked to play on the odd transition, stay compact and frustrate Miguel Cardoso’s side.

Cardoso brought on the likes of Teboho Peter Shalulile, Jayden Adams, Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Thapelo Morena from the bench to increase the intensity of their attack but Babina Noko continued to hold firm.

The Namibia captain looked to have scored a winner on the stroke of regulation time, but it was adjudged as an off-side, added to the heroics of Leaner who was playing his first match since September 2024, it was a night to forget for Sundowns fans who turned up in Atteridgeville this evening.

But in the 119th minute, as the game looked to be heading to penalties, Thapelo Morena’s effort was saved and tapped in by Adams for a dramatic winner.
